August Goals!

One Pan Pasta Caprese!

I don't want to make excuses, but here are three. I've had a really busy month, I was stressed about my Dad having another operation (he's fine now) and, well, I'm lazy.

These were my July Goals:

  • Create spreadsheet for beauty staples with dates, stockists and best prices ~ NO
  • Dine at a restaurant I've never been to before! ~ YES! We went to Burger Foundry (see foodie pics here), From Orient, La Boca Bar & Grill (see photo in my Just Desserts post) and Borsa Pasta Cucina.
  • Clear/clean a second kitchen bench-top (whole kitchen goal was too ambitious) ~ Hahaha (NO)
  • Set up a Letterboxd account and make some movie lists! ~ YES! Here's my profile if you're interested!
  • Publish 10 blog posts in July! ~ YES!
  • Make a new (never cooked before) dish every Wednesday, from a recipe ~ NO (I only managed one new recipe, One Pan Pasta Caprese, photo above)
  • Read one book (something better than Puberty Blues) ~ NO
  • Find and pat a cat! ~ NO! Where were all the cats in July?
  • Exercise for 30 minutes every Tuesday and Thursday ~ NO, but I did do over 20,000 steps one day, thanks to excessive walking during our City Break.
  • Shopping Spree! Buy new jeans and long-sleeved tops ~ NO

Summary - 3/10 Oh dear!

Must be too cold outside for my neighbourhood kitty friend. Long time, no see!

Let's hope I fare a bit better with my August Goals......

  • Clear out the entire Linenpress, ready for the Builder
  • Go to bed by 11pm Sunday to Thursday nights!
  • Buy new jeans and long-sleeved tops
  • First-time watch five movies
  • Cook five new dishes from recipes
  • Find a cat (or any animal that's safe to pat) and pat it!
  • Walk 5000 FitBit steps every weekday
  • Cut and colour my hair
  • Compile recipe printouts and cutouts into a folder
  • Clear and clean my desk

Review: Hair&Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment*

Over the weekend I tried the Hair&Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment* which was kindly sent to me from the Hair&Me team. I rarely use hair masks, because having fine hair that lacks body at the best of times, I'm always worried they will over-condition my hair and leave me with completely limp locks. But I decided to throw caution to the wind, and give this rejuvenating treatment a go. In the name of science.

Hair&Me say: 'Hair&Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment is 100% organic. It is an oil based product, using coconut, macadamia, jojoba & almond oil – designed to help repair, moisturise & strengthen your hair & scalp.'

I must say I love the packaging of this product! The packet is a gorgeous bright pink colour, and the resealable plastic screw-top lid was easy to open. Also, should you not use it all, you can simply screw the cap back on and save the rest for next time; no mess, no fuss, no leakages. I will easily get one more treatment out of my remaining product.

The product information and directions for use are stated clearly on the back of the packet, which is great. It's a good idea to actually read through the directions and usage tips, because some preparation is required. This is not like a face mask that you can slap on for ten minutes while you get ready for your shower then wash off!  Firstly, it's recommended you put the packet in the fridge for 30 minutes before use to harden the formula to a cream-like consistency, so it's easier to apply. Then you need to set aside some time, as this treatment works best if you leave it on for at least 45 minutes. You can even leave it on overnight if you're that way inclined! Personally I couldn't sleep with damp hair and I'd be worried about my pillowcase getting covered in it. I had a very relaxing 45 minute pink bubblebath (finally using my remaining Lush Candy Mountain Bubble Bar!), applying the Hair&Me Rejuvenation Treatment right at the start. It was easy to apply and smelled ah-mazing (think tropical island holiday and Pina Colada cocktails - must be the strong coconut aroma). After that, I had a shower and washed the mask out, shampooing and conditioning like normal. It took a while to get the coconutty treatment off my neck, and I'd recommend using a body exfoliant to aid the removal.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. My hair was less tangly (although not completely tangle-free) and easier to comb through. Once it was dry you could definitely see and feel a difference. It looked healthier, felt a lot softer and was more moisturised and just looked really nourished and shiny, like it had a good feed! The ends don't look as ratty and the hairstyles I'm wearing in the two days since are looking better because the lengths of my hair are soft and coming together more. Unfortunately my hairdryer decided to shit itself a quarter of the way through blow-drying (I only got my fringe done) so I can't comment on volume, as I really need my hairdryer to create volume after washing my hair. I've since added my favourite Batiste Dry Shampoo XXL Volume to the roots, and it's now looking as full as I can normally get it. I'm not going to be paranoid about hair masks after using this, as it didn't make my hair go limp and flat, even without the use of a hairdryer. I made an emergency trip to the shops and bought a new one in case you were wondering, because I cannot be without my hairdryer! (This is why I will never go camping, lol).

All products from this brand are vegan friendly and aren't tested on animals. Yay!

Hair&Me Hair Rejuvenation Treatment is $19.95 for 90ml

Wordless Wednesday: Just Desserts Part 2!

Another round of School Holidays, another mini-break in the city! I've been so lucky with prizes lately. I had a $500 accommodation voucher left over from another prize, so my husband and I stayed at the Rendezvous Adelaide (a 5 star hotel!) for a couple of nights. We also had over $100 in hotel credit at our disposal, as the accommodation alone didn't quite reach $500. Hello expensive buffet breakfast and room service! You can check out all the desserts we ate on our last mini-break weekend here (Wordless Wednesday: Just Desserts). But for now, I present to you, the latest round of sweet treats (with some fruit at the end to ease my guilt)!

Lime Sorbet, Apple Pie Icecream & Walnut Sticky Date with Caramel Sauce Icecream - Gelatissimo
Flourless Orange Cake, Candied Orange, Double Cream & Ginger Glaze - Rendezvous Hotel
Picnic Cheesecake - a stall in the Adelaide Central Markets, can't recall which one!
Various desserts - Asador Lunch Buffet at La Boca Bar & Grill
Peanut Butter Banana Cream Pie - St Louis House of Fine Icecream & Dessert
Wild Strawberry Waffle - St Louis House of Fine Icecream & Dessert
