Manicure for Short or Broken Nails!

Hiding the thumb!

Recently, both of my thumb nails broke off painfully short, and after the initial horror subsided, I thought "not going to be able to do any mani's for a while!". But then I thought, why not? I'll adapt. Besides, I didn't want to have to look at my ugly thumb nails in all their short, broken glory. Best I cover them up.

So I clipped them all off relatively short (about end of finger length), so I didn't have a combination of short and long nails, then filed them straight across in a square shape. I filed the broken thumb nails as best I could to at least get an even shape.

You may want to use a nail strengthener/hardener if your nails take ages to grow, or break a lot.

On to colour choice. This is just personal opinion, but if some of my nails are actually shorter than the end of my finger, I don't really want them screaming "Look at me!" in any of the following colour options: black, red, violet, neons, hot pink, white, pastels or basically anything bright, dark, glittery or overly bold. Now is the time for nudes, earthy shades and light, flesh-coloured tones. You want something that is going to give you a polished (ha!) look that is demure and understated. This kind of manicure is also great if you are short on time, because mistakes will not stand out.

    1. Sounds like you have great nails! The colour is way more conservative than I'm used to, but still cool for a neutral :)

  2. My thumb nail keeps breaking in middle and is painful. I just (bite) cut it off but think I should do a major repair job. Thanks for the suggestion :)

  3. I like to keep my nails short, and I hardly ever polish them. If I did, it would be in a similar colour though, yours look great!

  5. I always said that I'd never wear brown nail polish but I got a bottle in a gift pack and gave it a go when I was wearing a beige/black outfit. Now I love it! Simple, matches everything.

  6. I have always had weak, short nails. I decided recetly that if my nails grew at all long that I would cut them. I have no idea why but since I started cutting them my nails have strengthened. Thanks for the post- us short nailed girls can sometimes be left out! Love the colour too. (tust visitor!)

    1. Wow. Maybe it's like when you cut the split ends off your hair regularly, it becomes healthier and grows better. Thanks for visiting Nico :)

  7. My nails are always short because I've broken them. Might have to lash out and buy a nice nude polish.

  8. I love that colour. I actually just use a clear finish on my finger nails because it never lasts more than a few days. But I like the idea of the nude colour. I'm heading to Perth next week I will add it to the list!!!!
