Mani Monday: Nail Polish Loves!

Hi guys! I wanted to tell you about a couple of nail polishes I've been loving lately. Namely, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in Expresso* and Sally Hansen Color Therapy in Steely Serene.*

I've been switching between these two shades over the last few weeks, and it's been kind of interesting. I started off applying the brownish-nude Expresso because I was short on time and needed something that would dry fast. I love this shade! It's super-flattering and the wide, flat brush means application is speedy and easy.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Expresso (the rest of my nails are a different shade!)

For my next mani I tested Sally Hansen's Steely Serene from the Color Therapy Argan Oil formula range. Now this is not normally my type of shade at all, but it looks a lot prettier on the nails than in the bottle! Again, the reason I chose this hue was because I was rushed and needed to paint my nails quickly. Therefore reds and bold shades were not an option, as mistakes would stand out and I wouldn't have time to fix them.

Over the weekend I knew only my thumbnails would be featuring in an Instagram photo; the grey shade was wearing off and I was in a rush again, so I just painted my thumbs with Expresso, over the top! Ever done that? One coat covered the Steely Serene shade perfectly and I was good to go! (see the KIN movie pass photo above - the nails behind the pass were a different colour).

Then for my son's Birthday Party on the weekend, I thought, let's fix this two-toned madness and painted over the rest of my nails with Expresso again! So now I was back where I started! LOL. Except I'm currently rocking layers of different shades. You'd never know though!

Ever done the whole 'cheat and paint over the top' business? Or is that just me?

  2. I especially love the Expresso shade. And yes, I've also done that cheat thing of just painting my thumb nail as it's going to be in a photo.

  6. I am hopeless with my nails, but I do love it when they are pretty. The last time I had them done professionally was when a friend treated us both to an SNS manicure. They looked gorgeous and lasted for way longer than I thought - so much so, that I still had them when I needed surgery for just a minor thing, but the nail polish had to come off. I was devastated! I was already at my accommodation near the hospital by the time I found out, and on my second type of nail polish remover when I phoned the nurse on duty. She said as long as I had at least a few nails on each hand clear I would be okay. I chipped away at them, and finally had the dodgiest looking nails ever! They are slowly recovering and one day I shall have nice ones again. I love the Steely shade- that is probably really practical for me.

    1. Oh what a shame you had to clear a few nails and that it was so hard to remove! I've never had an SNS mani, but I'd love to - sounds like the polish lasted so long on you! Would be well worth the money then :)

  7. Love these two shades but the grey nudey one is my favourite! I should try this layering trick and see if that works for me!

  8. I love the latte colour!
Are those your real nails? Envious! I am currently wearing falsies after a disasterous run with a constantly peeling nail. I am missing my polishes.

  12. I've definitely painted over! I'm actually wearing the same pedicure that I put on for my trip to Mexico in March. I keep forgetting to redo my toes so I just repaint them LOL Although as for nails, I'm a nail wrap girl! No chipped polish.

  13. I spoiled myself at the last 50% off everything at Priceline and got nailpolish and they were not all safe colours!! However, I do not apply it wonderfully and I am impatient so I always buy quick drying ones and apply Sally Hanson dry whatever over it.

  14. Absolutely wonderful post as usual Di! My favourite of the two is definitely Expresso - how stunning! I'm still really pissed off at myself because I haven't tried any Sally Hansen polishes yet but, trust me, you're doing a really good job of incentivising me - now I've just got to get my bank account on board! xx
