Netflix Recommendation: Dead To Me

Hi guys! I've just finished watching Dead To Me on Netflix, and I was really impressed with it. This dark comedy really struck a chord with my warped sense of humour and I'd certainly recommend you give it a go if you have Netflix (is there anyone left who doesn't at this point?).

~~ NO SPOILERS~~

Cast: Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini, James Marsden
Genre: Dark Comedy
Seasons: 1 (10 episodes), renewed for a second season
Country: United States

This series is essentially about the friendship between two women. They meet at a therapy group and form a strong bond whilst grieving for their respective partners, who have recently passed away. Jen (Christina Applegate) is having a very tough time dealing with the death of her husband in a hit and run accident (as you would!), meanwhile Judy (Linda Cardellini) has a much more positive outlook following the death of her fiance.

Dead To Me follows their journey as they support each other and grow closer. However all is not as it seems, and we begin to learn Judy holds a pretty fucking big secret! There's a couple of great plot twists, and watching Jen discover the truth and uncover the mystery is half the fun of this engrossing series. The two female leads are magnificent in this, and carry the whole show with aplomb. The subject matter seems depressing, and although it is dark, the comedy provides relief, and again, the acting is superb. Christina Applegate is required to run the absolute gamut of emotions in this, and she is so watchable, excelling in dramatic, moving moments whilst still displaying the impeccable comic timing we know her for (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, TV's Married With Children) in other scenes.

I was a little bit 'WTF?' at the how the last episode ended, but honestly it just makes me excited to see where they will take this in Season Two. Go add this to your watch list now and thank me later!

    1. Oh and on recs: definitely Derry Girls. I've also just rewatched Mindhunter in preparation for season two. Ozark is quirky like Dead to Me, if you haven't seen that.

  10. Me! I'm one of the strange few remaining ones who doesn't have Netflix!! Even if it was free I still wouldn't get it because I already waste enough time watching things when I could be more productive. Mind you, I've just spent a month house sitting at a place with Netflix so managed to get a Netflix binge in, on someone else's account. We watched and loved Body Guard, Line of Duty and Collateral (all British). haha - how to have Netflix when you don't have Netflix!!
