An Indian Feast at Johnny's Kitchen!

Johnny's Kitchen
56 Glen Osmond Road
Parkside
SA 5063

Hi guys! I was recently invited to try out Indian restaurant Johnny's Kitchen, which is located on Glen Osmond Road, right near Kublai Khan. I immediately felt a hit of nostalgia, because we've had many a romantic night at this Mongolian BBQ restaurant, but it was time for a new adventure! I love Indian food, so I was excited to sample some flavourful Indian curries and see what else they had to offer. We were met by Jany, who was warm and welcoming. She's married to Johnson, aka Johnny, the Chef and Owner. They were happy to pose for this cute photo for me!

The inside of the restaurant is decorated with beautiful paintings and a large wall mural, that's both colourful and gorgeous. The tables are absolutely stunning, and they are so unique! I spent a while looking at them all and deciding where to sit based on lighting and how the glass-topped table looked for photos! I even swapped tables, because I just couldn't decide (this might be a food blogger thing!).

Johnny's Kitchen is a home-style restaurant, serving authentic Indian dishes with local ingredients sourced from the farm or markets. This ensures fresh dishes, prepared simply so the food shines. They pride themselves on using quality ingredients, less oils and absolutely no preservatives or food colours.

Have you heard of a Lassi before? No, I'm not referring to the pretty Collie dog, I'm talking about the Indian drink! We tried the Mango Lassi's and wow, were they yummy! Think a mix between a tangy yogurt drink and a thick milkshake. The Lassi is a traditional chilled Indian drink that is a blend of yogurt, water, spices and fruit. I'm so glad we tried these, as it really enhanced our Indian experience at Johnny's Kitchen!

For entree, we chose Samosas and Chicken Tikka. The samosas were tasty flaky parcels filled with seasonal potato, peas, cumin seeds, and were deep fried to perfection. I love this type of food! The chicken tikka was such a vibrant orange colour and came with some fresh salad. This boneless chicken dish is marinated overnight with yogurt, ginger, garlic and Johnny's Kitchen blend of special herbs and spices, then roasted in a charcoal tandoor. These dishes were all the yum!

We were all set with our main course choices of Butter Chicken for me and Lamb Vindaloo for my husband, but Jany generously surprised us with more of their delicious curries and a beautiful bowl of saffron rice, so were were really able to get a taste of more of their dishes. We also ordered garlic naan bread and cheese naan bread, because you can't have curries without naan!

The Butter Chicken was so creamy and bursting with that familiar butter chicken flavour. It's my favourite Indian dish and Johnny's Kitchen version does not disappoint! I would order this again and again and highly recommend you try it if you pay them a visit! Hubby's Lamb Vindaloo was pretty spicy but I loved it. The thing I love about Indian dishes is that they are bursting with flavour, and these curries sure nail that brief.

We also tried a couple of vegetable-based curries. The Dal Tadka (which I admit, I'd never heard of before) is yellow lentils cooked on a slow heat and seasoned with butter, onion, ginger, garlic, tomatoes and garnished with coriander. This one was a bit milder and a welcome reprieve from the vindaloo. The Palak Paneer, the dark green coloured curry is cottage cheese cubes cooked with spinach, spices and a dash of cream. I'm not a huge fan of spinach, so although I tried this one and didn't dislike it, I mainly left it for my husband!

I absolutely loved both the cheese and the garlic naan breads and the fluffy and fragrant saffron rice was the perfect accompaniment to the delicious curries. I love that this restaurant caters to vegetarians, with a large range of non-meat dishes on their menu, too. Whether you eat meat or not, there really is something to please all tastes and diets. We had an amazing experience at Johnny's Kitchen and would highly recommend you go check them out! They currently have a number of specials running, and if you subscribe to their emails, you get a generous 25% off your food bill in August, dine in or takeaway!

You can check out the Johnny's Kitchen website here, like them on Facebook and follow them on Instagram here!

Thanks so much to With Eric's Help for facilitating this visit. Go check out his page if you're in the market for a Marketing expert!

Cooking with Foodee: Mee Goreng!

Hi guys! I'm so excited to tell you all about Foodee, because, drum roll please ..... I made Mee Goreng! And it was a roaring success! Foodee was created by Jenn, Miss Foodee, a home cook who aims to simplify the grocery shopping and dinner cooking experience and take the stress out of the age old question 'what's for dinner?'. Foodee is an Adelaide-based meal kit experience at grocery store prices. You simply choose which meals you want to cook, and Foodee packs all the necessary ingredients and delivers them to your door! I'm thrilled to have collaborated with Foodee* and think it's a fabulous service.

Currently there are six meals to choose from:
~ Beef Pho
~ Curry Laksa
~ Satay
~ Rendang
~ Mee Goreng
~ Asam Laksa

More recipes will be added in the coming weeks too! So whether you are an experienced cook or a novice like me, there are choices to suit your tastes and skill level. I chose Mee Goreng because it looked super-straightforward, enabling me the best chance to obtain a nice photo for my foodie Instagram account and a delicious dinner, haha. Win win!

Delivery is available to the the Adelaide metro area and it's free on orders over $30. As long as you order by 11:59pm on Wednesdays, your delivery will come the following weekend. You can even add in pantry items and fresh vegetables as optional extras. Think anything from garlic, bok choy and kaffir lime leaves to red onions, fresh eggs and oyster sauce. I added in a generous jar of fried shallots and they really elevated my dish with a crunchy flavourful texture. And now I have the remainder to add to other Asian dishes I make, which is great because fried shallots are something I would never usually buy!

My Foodee experience was easy and fun! Included in the box is a recipe card for your chosen meal, with clear instructions. Up the top is the ingredients, then it says the amount of people the dish serves and the cooking time. I love a set of simple directions, and when there's only seven things to do, I'm like "YES, I can do this!". The only preparation for Mee Goreng was chopping the chicken, cutting the bok choy and chilis up (an optional extra I added) and cutting some lime wedges for garnishing. Then it was just simply a matter of frying the chicken until it was brown, adding the bok choy, the Mee Goreng sauce and the Singapore noodles. Check out my photos below for the cooking process.

The only thing not included in the pack was the eggs, but I had eggs in the fridge, as most people do, so I fried a couple to add to the top of the dish. I did have to Google 'which part of the bok choy do you eat' (lol) and apparently it's all of it, so I chopped up and added the whole thing. All of the ingredients provided were super fresh and great quality! The sauce was Ayam brand and the chicken was Lilydale. As an added bonus, the instructions said to use only half the chicken thighs, so I had leftover chicken which I used for dinner the following night!

Overall, I am really impressed with this Foodee box and my experience, and would highly recommend it if you're in Adelaide! The customer service was friendly and professional and Jenn was a delight from start to finish. Please check them out on their website and give them a follow on Instagram as well!

As a special offer to my readers, use the code 'IMHUNGRYMAXAUG2020' at checkout to receive $5 off your order! This code expires at the end of August.

Monday Mani: Furless BITCH

Hi guys. It's been a hot minute, but time for something dark, it's BITCH, a black lacquer from Furless Cosmetics. I looked them up on Instagram and apparently they've closed down, although they did reply to my Story, so I'm not sure what's happening. Let me know below if you know.

I'm loving this colour for something a bit edgier. What do you think of baby-faced Leo? We've been cleaning up and I found some vintage magazines. Hope you have a fun week.

David Jones Deluxe Beauty Edit Bag!

Hi guys! I'm so excited to have another Deluxe Beauty Edit Bag in my hot little hands! I got the last one and when my husband suggested he get me the latest one for Mother's Day, I was like, yes please! This is a bag full of luxe beauty samples valued at over $350 (including the bag) that you buy from David Jones for just $39.95. I love the variety of products and brands, and it's especially great since I wouldn't splurge on full-sized products of these brands. I love being able to try a mini version from a high end brand, not to mention these smaller sizes are ideal for travel (if that ever happens again!). My one tip would be if you want one of these bags, buy it as soon as you see the offer, as they sell out super fast! Let's have a look at what you get:

David Jones Deluxe Beauty Edit
~ large clear plastic zippered bag with black trim
~ $10 David Jones Beauty voucher (to be redeemed on brands featured in the bag)
~ David Jones Powder Brush
~ Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules Line Erasing Night Serum (7 capsules)
~ Antipodes Manuka Honey Skin Brightening Light Day Cream (15ml)
~ Grown Alchemist Anti-Pollution Primer (12ml)
~ Molton Brown Suede Orris Bath and Shower Gel (30ml)
~ Clinique Moisture Surge 72 Hour Auto-Replenising Hydrator (7ml)
~ Burts Bees Night Cream with Royal Jelly (18.9g)
~ Philosophy Renewed Hope In A Jar Renewing Dew Concentrate (3ml)
~ Loving Tan Deluxe Gradual Tan Nourishing Tinted Body Lotion (20ml)
~ Natio Ageless Rosehip Oil Cold Pressed (15ml)
~ Bvlgari Rose Goldea Blossom Delight Eau De Parfum (5ml)
~ Marvis Cinnamon Mint Toothpaste (10ml)
~ Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery (7ml)
~ Jurlique Herbal Recovery Signature Moisturising Cream (10ml)
~ Inika Lipstick in Mulberry (3.5g)
~ MAC Strobe Cream (6ml)
~ OPI Nail Lacquer no shade name given (3.75ml)
~ BioEffect EGF Day Serum (5ml)
~ Marc Jacobs Daisy Love Eau De Toilette (4ml)
~ Coach Dreams Eau De Parfum (4.5ml)
~ Shu Uemura Skin Purifier (50ml)
~ L'Occitane Reset Nuit Serum (can't read weight on the packaging)

I'm pretty happy with everything in this bag, with the possible exception of the gradual tanner, because I don't really use those, but maybe I'll give it a go? The toothpaste has thrown me and I'm not the biggest fan of that sparkly baby pink nail shade, but everything else is pretty cool. I especially love trying luxe serums and moisturisers and can't wait to try the Inika lipstick. I'm always happy to score a new makeup brush and I'm honestly thrilled with the inclusion of the Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide capsules, as I adore them so much! Also, this will be my first ever Shu Uemura product and I'm so excited to try it, given the hype this brand receives in the beauty community.

Review: al.ive body Earth Collection!

Hi guys! How are you all doing in these uncertain times? Are you getting sick of every sentence ending in 'during these uncertain times' or is that just me? To fill you in, I've been baking a lot of cupcakes, trying to be more active on my Instagram accounts, watching Netflix shows (anyone else enjoying the trash that is Too Hot To Handle?) and we bought some toilet paper off Amazon (exciting! lol) and scored a free month's trial of Amazon Prime Video, so I've been watching a lot of movies too. Another thing I've been doing a lot is washing my hands, so I was thrilled to be sent a hand and body duo recently. It couldn't have come at a better time!

al.ive body is an Aussie brand created by interior designer sisters Alisa and Lysandra. Their hand and body range expertly combines product purity with designer aesthetics to stimulate your senses and shape your surroundings. They believe that being surrounded by beautiful things improves the mood and increases our quality of life. I love this! Lovely products certainly make me feel special and happy. Especially if they look good, smell great, work well and are good for the environment, such as the eco-friendly al.ive body range.

Harnessing the power of essential oils and native botanical extracts, the al.ive body range is naturally derived, 100% palm oil free, vegan and never tested on animals. The products don't contain any SLS/SLES or parabens and are natural and gentle on the skin. The name 'al.ive body' was inspired by the twin sisters passion for environmental causes that help keep the Earth alive and contains the first initials of their names. Clever! The girls also have a tree planting pledge with charity One Tree Planted, where for every product purchased online or via a stockist, they will plant a tree in Australia to help the planet thrive. This is such an amazing and thoughtful initiative! The bottles are 100% recyclable and the sisters will be introducing refill pouches to enable re-use.

I've been trialling the Kaffir Lime & Green Tea Wash & Lotion Duo, which comes in a matching tray, perfect to display on the bathroom vanity. This consists of the Natural Hand & Body Lotion (500ml) and the Natural Hand & Body Wash (500ml). These products smell amazing, so fresh, fruity and zingy. It's just a happy scent! You get a lot of product, so they will last for ages, providing great value for money. Some details on the naturally derived ingredients:

~ Kaffir Lime Leaf Extract is packed with antioxidants and uplifts body and mind

~ Finger Lime Fruit Extract is high in vitamin A & C and improves hydration

~ Green Tea Leaf Extract is detoxifying and has anti-inflammatory properties

The hand wash is a runny texture, but despite this it lathers up really well and provides a satisfying cleanse, leaving my skin feeling clean and refreshed. This doesn't dry my hands out either! These products are so well designed. Despite the wash being a thin consistency, the bottles don't drip or get messy at all. You're just left with the beautiful, smooth, perfectly-interlocking bottles on display! I'd highly recommend this Hand & Body Wash, I'm loving it!

The hand and body lotion is not too thin and not too thick in texture. It smells divine as you rub it in, and it leaves my body feeling soft, moisturised and nourished. It absorbs quickly and doesn't leave any sticky, uncomfortable residue or tacky feeling to the skin. That'a one thing that puts me off using body lotion, but no concerns with that here, thank goodness!

The Earth Collection Wash & Lotion Duo is Alisa and Lysandra's first release, and comes in three beautiful earthy hues. Along with the delicious Kaffir Lime & Green Tea scent, the other fragrances are Fig, Apricot & Sage and Coconut & Wild Orange. What a perfect idea for a Mother's Day gift!

Pretty Mani: Rimmel 60 Seconds Portobello Pink!

Hi guys! Long time, no blog. How is everyone going? I've been struggling with all the changes to our day-to-day lives as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, from general depression about all the people dying from it, to stress and anxiety about my family possibly becoming infected, frustration due to the lack of fucking toilet paper available (and related anger towards the panic-buyers!), sadness about having to #StayHome and many more emotions I'm sure we are all feeling right now. So I haven't felt very motivated to blog in the last month. But I thought I'd ease myself back in with this pretty in pink mani I recently performed (that cannot be the right word!) on myself. Strap yourself in, I literally have two photos of this.

I love this 60 Seconds line from Rimmel, although ironically, I kind of have all the time in the world right now? I mean I should be breaking out the Opallac Gel Nails at home machine. That was certainly a process, but the results were worth it. Anyway, back to the Portobello Pink manicure. This polish features the Xpress Flat Brush which kind of spreads out when you're applying, meaning less strokes and thus quicker application time. My cats like more strokes, not less haha. Looking at the Revlon website, it seems they have updated this range to the 60 Seconds Super Shine line, with a bunch of new shades.

This colour is not usual Di's cup of tea, but usual Di tapped out a few weeks ago and we are left with bonkers Di lol. It's feminine AF, happy and fun and it's cheering me up and that's all I care about right now. It contains tiny little silver sparkly bits that create a shiny, glossy finish, even without a top coat. Don't be lazy like me, always wear a top coat. Your future self will thank you.

Stirling Restaurant Recommendation: The Locavore

The Locavore
49 Mount Barker Road
Stirling
SA 5152

Hi guys! Last month we went on a drive to Stirling, in the Adelaide Hills. It's such a beautiful area, with lots of pretty flowers, gorgeous trees lining the roads and quaint little shops that just begged to be explored! I really love the relaxed vibe, and I guess it helped that we visited on a lazy Sunday. The only problem was, Sunday is the one day of the week the much-hyped Lobethal Bakery is closed. Oh damn! So that's still on my must-visit list (a great excuse to re-visit this lovely part of South Australia).

We had lunch at The Locavore, which is a family-run restaurant situated along Mount Barker Road. Given the option, I basically never choose to sit outside (wind being my mortal enemy and all) but it was such a lovely day, and to keep hubby on his toes (plus natural lighting, who are we kidding?), we sat out the front, which was the best decision ever. It was a super relaxed atmosphere and we were able to people and (more importantly) dog watch to our hearts content. So many dogs, you guys.

The Locavore specialises in locally sourced produce, and they strive to live by the 100 mile diet. This means that, as much as possible, they try to work with produce that is grown within a 100 mile radius of the restaurant. I love this idea. Talk about supporting local! Time to slip the #IChooseSA hashtag in.

Now onto the food. They do have a Kids Menu, but we did have to request it. Everything on the adult menu was a bit too fancy for our fussy son, who has only recently branched out to Fish and Chips as his restaurant order, after a good many years ordering Chicken Nuggets and Chips. Baby steps, right? He loved his meal, and happily, it was quite a generous size for a kids meal. The hand-cut chips were super chunky too!

Hubby and I ordered the Dips & Dukkah Starter and it was amazing! He said to me "you're ordering the dips platter no matter what, aren't you?" and he was right. Ain't no stopping me. This is one of my favourite things to get as a Starter, and this platter did not disappoint. There's just something about dipping various breads in oils, dips and dukkah that makes my heart sing. These flavours were delicious. It included two housemade dips, toasted rye bread, extra virgin olive oil, vincotto, house made dukkah and Fleurieu olives which hubby claimed because I'm that freak that dislikes olives.

My husband had the Murraylands Sirloin with Three Chips (lol, not the actual name of it) which he said was beautifully cooked. It was actually served with kipfler potato and red wine jus. Yum. Usually we let our son steal some of our chips, but hubby wasn't letting him eat Tom, Dick or Harry on this occasion, and rightly so. Haha.

I ordered the Gnocchi, which was accompanied by a creamy, delicious sauce and was absolutely to die for. I always gravitate towards pasta, what can I say? Sorry, not sorry. Except sorry to my clothes, I guess, which invariably fit a little tighter afterwards. Worth it though, when a dish tastes this good! Guys, I cannot find the menu I printed out at the time with this exact dish name on it (lol, I can't be the only one that prints out the menu and plans their entire meal beforehand? Like with highlighter and everything?) and now their online menu has changed so I have NFI what this gnocchi exactly was, just know that it was incredible and you should haul arse to Stirling and dine at The Locavore immediately.

You can follow The Locavore on Instagram here or Facebook here and make a booking here.

2020 Project Pan: February - April

Hi guys! Well I've just finished my 2020 Masking Challenge (here are the results) and now it's straight on to my 2020 Project Pan! I've been so keen to get into this, but knew it was way too ambitious to start whilst using twenty masks in a month (which ended up only being ten lol), so here we go! This lot of products I'll be going hard on for three months, from February right through until the end of April.

The idea behind this is to use up a shit-ton of products that would normally just be sitting in the cupboard, approaching their expiry dates, possibly hidden from sight behind other products #beautybloggerproblems ~ I've specifically picked out things I don't want to go to waste, things I really want to use and things I can power through.

My plan at this stage is to pick another 20 products for the next Project Pan (May - July) and so forth until the end of the year, then see how I've done. However, I may carry some products over into the next Project Pan if I'm really loving them/I love the results/I'm nearly finished it for example. OK so I've only really thought through the first three months lol. I want to just dive in and play it by ear basically!

Here are the first lot of products in my Feb - April Project Pan!

1.  Clear Skincare Microdermabrasion Cream*
2   Kit Pomegranate & Pink Grapefruit Body Lotion
3.  Lush Twilight Shower Gel
4.  Mario Badescu Super Collagen Mask
5.  La Roche-Posay Serozinc
6.  Skin Physics Lash & Brow Magic Enhancing Treatment
7.  L'Oreal Pure Clay Anti-Blemish Mask
8.  Chapstick Total Hydration Conditioning Lip Scrub*
9.  GlamGlow GravityMud Firming Treatment
10. Nip + Fab Skin No Needle Fix Serum
11. Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser
12. Pureology Colour Fanatic Multi-Tasking Hair Beautifier*
13. The Base Collective Magnesium & White Tea Hand & Body Wash*
14. Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Primer
15. Neutrogena Visibly Clear Light Therapy Spot Treatment
16. StriVectin SD Advanced Intensive Concentrate for Wrinkles & Stretch Marks
17. A'kin Rose Mist Toner
18. Andalou Youth Firm Night Cream
19. Swisse Micellar Makeup Remover
20. Olay Total Effects Whip Moisturizer

Wish me luck with this lot! Hopefully I can finish a few of them over the next three months or at least make a big dent in them. Anyway I'm sure it will feel good to be 'shopping my stash' and working towards emptying out my beauty cupboard. I'm so sick of being overwhelmed with products everywhere!
