My skin has been through a lot lately, from breakouts to a rare period of dryness, so I was happy to be invited by Lush to come in-store and select a couple of their Fresh Face Masks to try out! I already knew I wanted Cosmetic Warrior to address my blemishes and soothe my stressed out skin, but the Sales Assistant was very helpful when I was tossing up between Oatifix and BB Seaweed for my second mask. She talked me through the benefits of each whilst applying Oatifix to one hand and BB Seaweed to the other. In the end, I decided upon BB Seaweed, as it seemed like a great all-rounder. Here are my thoughts on these two products!
Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask*
Lush say: "A superhero face mask to combat spots, cleanse dirt, calm and soothe all troubled skins. Antiseptic fresh garlic and tea tree essential oil, reinforced with deeply cleansing kaolin and fresh grapes, are aided by softening honey and free-range eggs."

In true Beauty Blogger style, I applied Cosmetic Warrior to one side of my face and BB Seaweed to the other, so I could directly compare them. The above photo shows the Cosmetic Warrior mask side. This is pretty much the perfect mask for me right now. I've been dealing with persistent breakouts that I finally cleared up with the Paula's Choice Clear Kit, but because that was Extra Strength, it dried my normally oily/combination skin out! This Lush mask is gentle, soothing and perfect for troubled skin. OK, so it doesn't smell great (unlike the chocolatey Lush Cupcake mask), but the breakout-busting ingredients like tea tree oil, garlic, kaolin and honey are working overtime to calm and de-stress the skin, so to me, it's worth it. This mask has a smooth consistency, and afterwards my skin was very soft to the touch! Areas of redness were significantly reduced, particularly on the Cosmetic Warrior side (compared to the BB Seaweed side). My pores were reduced and my skin appeared brighter and recharged. I love this mask and would definitely purchase it to combat future breakouts.
BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask*
Lush say: "Relaxing and reviving, mineral-rich mask to cleanse, soften and beautify all skins. This blend, inspired by the sea, contains fresh and nutritious seaweed and seaweed absolute. Cleansing kaolin, antiseptic honey, calming aloe vera and rose absolute make this a great mask for everyone."

I'm not going to lie, BB Seaweed smells even worse than Cosmetic Warrior. But you don't get these masks for the fragrance, that's what the Lush soaps and shower gels are for! I see these masks as a way to address my skincare concerns and improve my complexion. Besides, you only leave these masks on for 5 - 10 minutes, a huge plus if you're in a hurry. BB Seaweed is the chunkier of the two masks, containing seaweed, kaolin and aloe vera, amongst other reviving and beautifying ingredients. BB Seaweed is more of an all-rounder mask, and would be suitable for anyone looking for a deep-cleansing, yet relaxing and calming experience. The added bonus of this mask is the tiny gritty particles in it mean you get a little exfoliation action going as you wash it off! Again, my skin was left lovely and smooth, soft and refined, with tighter pores and a brighter appearance. My skin was slightly drier on the Cosmetic Warrior side than the BB Seaweed side, although the difference was barely noticeable. After applying moisturiser and a light coverage foundation, my general complexion looked better than it normally does (without using the masks first).
These Lush masks are preservative-free and packed with fresh, active ingredients, so you need to keep them chilled. It's best to store them in the fridge between uses and finish your mask pot within three weeks.
Both are $13.95 for 60g, available in-store and online (Lush recommend Express Post)

What's your favourite Lush mask? Is there one you want to try?
Ooh I don't know if I could handle a seaweed smelling mask although the properties sound great - even my rosehip oil smells too "organic" for me! A cupcake one though, that I could handle.
ReplyDeleteHaha. The Cupcake mask was so good I ate some as an experiment. Smells like chocolate, tastes like dirt. LOL
DeleteHaha! I appreciate your commitment. For, like, science and stuff.
DeleteI have never tried a seaweed mask before, I know I like the smell of the beach so I might have to give this a shot :)
ReplyDeleteThe ingredients are very fresh. It's a great mask, hope you love it Lily! :)
DeleteI recently bought the seaweed mask and am loving it!
ReplyDeleteYay, that's great Saumya! Lush do make some lovely masks :)
DeleteI should dry this cosmetic warrior one (the one sounds too smelly so not for me). I really need something to help my complexion out :p
ReplyDeletePam xo/ Pam Scalfi♥
Give it a go, Pam, Cosmetic Warrior is specifically designed to help with breakouts :)
DeleteI love that Lush uses fresh ingredients in its masks! The BB Seaweed Mask sounds brilliant although I would probably prefer the smell of the Chocolate Cupcake one!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both!
DeleteI really want to try these ones, I have tried Cupcake and that's about it! xx
ReplyDeleteSweetaholic Beauty

ReplyDeleteHi Di, our internet has been on the fritz (he's german) today, so im now being a german and checking all the comments i wrote this morning actually saved. SIGSCH (the sc makes it german). Enough powerkrauting! These sound awful but excellent- my smallest dude has multiple food allergies so a lot of lush is out for me, but i still enjoy reading others success with it! Ive heard very good things about lush, i own one prod, the lip scrub...good but not worth ten bucks imo...i might have to check ingredients and try some samples which are safe for me to use :) great review, love your style :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Christina, hope your internet starts behaving itself for starters! It must be so hard having to monitor ingredients to control what you little man is exposed to, I always wonder how parents of kids with food allergies manage that, it would be so stressful and difficult, so massive props for that! I own a *lot* of Lush products, I really love them. Definitely look into the ingredients and I've always had great, friendly customer service in store, the staff are always willing to help out and I always get samples with my purchases, so that shouldn't be a problem either! Thanks for visiting! :)
Deletelovely blog, definitely checking the product out!
ReplyDeletecheck out my blog + follow back?

Thanks for visiting Jess. Your blog looks great :)
DeleteI absolutely love Lush's Cosmetic Warrior - wish I could still get them but unfortunately after I moved back home I no longer had access to he brand, plus the Fresh Masks don't ship. So sad, lol. Despite the smell, it was one of my all time favourites!

I'm loving Cosmetic Warrior, too. Pity they don't ship to you. I hope you can pick one up when you travel somewhere there's a Lush store!
DeleteOh no, sorry about that! Wordpress blogs have been eating my comments lately, so I know how you feel. Warrior is the best for breakouts, so soothing! x
ReplyDeleteLol Di this is such an entertaining read! Really appreciate your honesty hon - gonna give the Cosmetic Warrior a go. Anything that has the remotest chance of reducing my pores is on my list for sure xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat! Yes, the Cosmetic Warrior was my favourite, hope it works for you, too! xx
DeleteI'd like to try the Cosmetic Warrior I think, I love that they don't use nasties in their products.
ReplyDeleteI once stood in a pile of rotting seaweed (it just looked like dried seaweed) that went all the way to my knee and that smell will remain with me for life so I'm not sure I could try the other, even though I'm sure they used fresh stuff!!!
OMG, that's unfortunate! I can understand why you'd never forget the smell. By the way, I tried commenting on your blog but my comment's not going through! Thanks for visiting :)
