Restaurant Review: Spaghetti Meatballs

Spaghetti Meatballs
47 O'Connell Street
North Adelaide

Hi guys! Today I'm bringing you another restaurant review, namely one-dish North Adelaide restaurant Spaghetti Meatballs. You may remember my piece on Spaghetti Crab, well thats finished up and in its place we have Spaghetti Meatballs, featuring a brand new dish to try, you guessed it, the iconic Italian classic, spaghetti and meatballs. Brought to us by Ruby Red Flamingo, but showcasing Vittorio's recipe instead of Carmela's this time!

I'm glad we were seated inside this time, because it provides a point of difference to our last visit. I can report our table for two against the wall was cosy and felt private even as the night wore on and the place got busier. We sat on stools but they were comfortable and not too high up (trust me, this can be a problem if you're short like me!). On the other side of the restaurant were booths that accommodated larger parties. In the middle is a strange bus-like bar situation that I'm still trying to work out!

We started off with a couple of Lemonatas which went down a treat. So refreshing and tangy! We got a bottle of table water, ordered our meals and before long were brought a basket of bread with a little pot of chilli. I knew this was potent from our last visit to Spaghetti Crab but lived on the edge and put way more chilli on my bread this time. A wise decision, because as it turns out I can handle more than I give myself credit for. This just prepped my tastebuds for what was to come!

Let's talk balls! When you order Spaghetti Meatballs for two it comes out on a large silver platter with a huge pile of spaghetti in the middle and eight gigantic meatballs, four on each side. Included is a set of tongs to lift the pasta from the platter to your plate. And lift I did! I honestly wish I could cook pasta this way, guys. It is cooked perfectly so that it's firm to the bite, or 'al dente' as they say in the business. I always overcook mine, which is why it's such a pleasure to eat spaghetti that's been cooked properly. The big balls of meat were juicy, tender and full of flavour, and pretty much the highlight of my night. I would definitely go back for the meatballs, time and time again. We also got a pot of extra sauce to dollop on our pasta, which was good because you can never have too much pasta sauce! And they don't forget the parmesan, as your waiter will sprinkle on as much as your cheese-lovin' heart desires. I ordered a glass of Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, a delicious red wine which was the perfect accompaniment to our Italian feast.

The service, once again, was super friendly and helpful. The food, along with the amazing service all contribute to a homely feel and a really nice, comfortable atmosphere that gives you the warm and fuzzies. If you love authentic Italian food, that's as hearty as it is delicious, I recommend you try Spaghetti Meatballs!

Spaghetti Meatballs are open Thursday-Sunday, from 5:30pm-late. You can reserve a table by calling 08 8361 8714.
Don't delay, because like Spaghetti Crab, they won't be around forever!

  7. These spaghetti meatballs do look so delicious! But my favourite would have been the spaghetti crab that you wrote about last time. It's a pity they don't serve both dishes instead of just one.
