Results: 2020 Masking Challenge!

Hi guys! I'm writing this introduction last, so I've used all the masks featured below now, and I have to say this Challenge was harder than I thought it would be! Here's the blog post explaining this Masking Challenge, in case you haven't read that. First of all, it's hard finding the time for a mask nearly every day, then there's taking my skin's reaction to multiple masks into consideration. My skin was more sensitive than I thought and really didn't like lots of masks in a row, so I had to have days off in between, setting me back in time and motivation. Because of this I've decided to do away with the second part of this challenge (so I will have used 10 masks instead of 20). I really don't want to stress my skin out any further. Anyway, here are my experiences with the masks I used. Comment below if you've used any of these and what you thought of it!

1. Mario Badescu Super Collagen Mask

'Unveil plumper,  firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Perfect for dry or dull complexions in need of a lift, this Collagen-packed formula works to help improve skin's elasticity while smoothing the look of fine lines and wrinkles.'

Type: hard-drying. Wash off after waiting 15-20 minutes for it to dry. Use 2-3 times per week.

My thoughts
First of all, I'm a fan of this type of hard-drying mask, as it's so easy to wash off in the shower, and not as messy as a sheet mask. Results-wise, I'm very impressed! The first thing I noticed was how bright my skin was afterwards, followed by really even skin tone. Then I noticed a tighter complexion, particularly under my eyes and to the sides of my mouth. This one would be perfect to use in preparation for an event.

2. 7th Heaven Manuka Honey Peel-Off Mask*

'With Manuka honey collected from the nectar of the bushes of New Zealand, this natural cleansing peel-off mask will gently remove dead cells. Used regularly pores will be emptied and restored!'

Type: peel-off. Apply, wait 20-25 minutes until dry then peel off.

My thoughts
I'm not in love with the formula, as it was difficult and messy to apply what is essentially sticky honey all over my face then attempt to wash it off my hands. Results-wise, I couldn't see much of a difference in my complexion, other than the slight yellow tinge of my skin after removing it! I wouldn't purchase this one, to be honest.

3. Aus Medic Co. Phyto-Nutrient Face Mask

'A phyto-nutrient rich formulation designed to clear dead skin cells and surface debris to minimise the appearance of enlarged pores unveiling radiant, glowing and healthy skin.'

Type: A thick light green cream containing microcapsules that you massage in, leave on for 5-10 minutes then rinse off.

My thoughts
This was quite nice to apply and massage into the skin. This took ages to wash off in the shower but that could be because I applied quite a thick layer to use it all up in one go. Afterwards, my skin felt really soft and smooth, so this definitely exfoliated off the dead skin cells. I quite liked this one!

4. 7th Heaven Coconut Cream Deep Moisture Boost Hydrating Mask*

'Give your face a nourishing hydration treatment with intensive moisture from Shea and Cocoa butters, all mixed up with a generous helping of creamy coconut freshness.'

Type: This is a thick white cream mask that's non-drying, you simply wait 10-15 minutes then wash it off, designed to be used once a week.

My thoughts
This felt soothing upon application, but I did experience tingling whilst it was on. I'm not sure if my skin is freaking out from too many masks (I specifically chose a moisturising, gentle mask not one with hardcore ingredients). After I washed it off, my skin looked healthy and definitely had a glow to it. My skin tone looked even too. I'd get this one again for sure!

5. L'Oreal Pure Clay Anti-Blemish Mask

'Combines 3 pure clays with the soothing properties of Marine Algae Extract to help clear blackheads and tighten pores.'

Type: Apply a thin layer over a cleansed face, wait 10-15 minutes then rinse off with warm water. Can be used twice a week.

My thoughts
This was super easy to apply because the formula is quite thin and very smooth and creamy, despite it appearing thick in the pot. I also love the subtle fragrance of this mask and the colour of it! I picked this one for today because after yesterday's hydrating mask I developed two little pimples (which happens with me if I moisturise or hydrate my skin too much). After removing the mask, I noticed my pores were smaller and my skin was tighter. I think this might be my favourite of the masks I've tried so far.

~~~~
Editors Note!
After five masks in nearly as many days, my skin was slightly flushed/red in appearance and I broke out with about three quite small pimples. I treated these with a pimple cream overnight and skipped doing a mask for a day so that my skin had a chance to calm down. It looked much better the next day, so I proceeded with the Challenge.
~~~~

6. In-Flight Magic Celebrations Hangover Mask*

'Re-hydrates dehydrated skin, cools and soothes irritable skin, reduces redness and blotchiness, rejuvenates stressed skin.'

Type: This is a very thick white balm-like formula that you apply, leave on for 10 minutes (or even overnight) then wash off.

My thoughts
This smelled lovely and even though I applied a liberal amount, there's still enough left for 1-2 applications. It does feel quite gentle, soothing and calming whilst it sits on the skin. After removal my skin was just kind of the same? I didn't really notice a difference, but it was pleasant to use.

~~~~
Editors Note!
Nope, my skin was not liking this many masks and just kind of looked wrong and not healthy. Also my skin looked greasy as hell after applying moisturiser, like it was too moisturised or something! I took a few days break from the masking challenge at this point (plus I had a super busy few days so it would have been hard to fit a daily mask in, anyway).
~~~~

7. Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask*

'This powerful mask helps address the appearance of a dull, aging complexion in three ways: by exfoliating with pumpkin enzyme, peeling with Alpha Hydroxy Acid and polishing with Aluminium Oxide Crystals.'

Type: This orange gel mask is an enzymatic dermal resurfacer that you apply in a thin layer then massage in to exfoliate then leave on for 3 - 7 minutes depending on skin sensitivity. Then wash off.

My thoughts
There was a bit of a hurty tingle once I applied this but it disappeared thankfully. I really liked how fresh, clean and renewed my skin felt after washing this off. I hadn't exfoliated in a while due to my skin freaking out, so I was overdue, and I was really happy with the results of this; smooth, healthy-looking, brighter skin.

8. 7th Heaven Dead Sea Mud Mask*

'With nutrient rich Dead Sea minerals and soothing lavender our natural mud mask hardens to draw out blocked pores leaving skin squeaky clean and really soft to the touch.'

Type: This is a deep pore cleansing hard drying formula that you leave on for 15 minutes then wash off.

My thoughts
I really liked my results from this mask! My skin looked fresh and brighter, not irritated at all and true to its claim, it was really soft. I'd definitely use this one again.

9. Garnier SkinActive Pure Charcoal Tissue Mask

'Our ultra-hydrating pore-refining charcoal tissue mask is enriched with black algae extract, LHA and Hyaluronic Acid to purify, refine pores and skin texture, while leaving skin hydrated.'

Type: A black sheet mask that you leave on for 15 minutes, then remove, massaging in the excess serum.

My thoughts
Honestly, I find sheet masks cold, wet and uncomfortable to wear. This does stick well to the face though. My skin did look brighter and my pores were smaller and more refined afterwards. I made the mistake of trying to apply my moisturiser after massaging in the extra serum and the two did not mix well, causing the dreaded ball up effect all over my face, which I had to micellar water off. Apart from this my skin did look nice, but I probably wouldn't bother with this mask again.

10. 7th Heaven Charcoal Mud Mask*

'Our purifying charcoal exfoliating walnut shell mask unclogs pores and polishes away grime. Detoxifying charcoal absorbs excess oil and impurities.'

Type: This is a black hard-drying mask that contains chunky walnut shell pieces, for oily, combo and problem skin. It can be used weekly. Leave on for 15 minutes or until dry then wash off.

My thoughts
I loved how my skin looked after using this! Admittedly I have been getting more sleep lately since it's the school holidays, but my skin was super smooth and looked clean and fresh. My skin tone was the best it has been, but again I'm not sure if that's the mask or the amount of sleep I've been getting!

In summary, I feel like I failed this Challenge because I only got halfway through and had to quit (I hate quitting things!) but I have no regrets about putting the health of my skin first. There's no way it would have handled ten more masks when I had ongoing issues during the first ten. Anyway I hope you enjoyed this challenge nonetheless!

2020 Masking Challenge!

Hi guys! Happy New Year! I have decided to start off 2020 with an epic Masking Challenge. I've pulled out twenty masks and I'm attempting to use them all this month. Some are single use and some are in pots. The fact that I could easily locate twenty masks in my collection is somewhat disturbing (lol) and the main motivation for this challenge. I have so many beauty products that it's quite overwhelming and I really want to start using them up. I'm also planning on doing a Project Pan this year, starting next month. That's how serious I am!

I've got my fingers crossed that using a different mask nearly every day won't have any adverse effects on my skin. I've seen this done before, but have never attempted it myself, so it's really anyone's guess what will happen haha. In any case, this will be a great opportunity to try out heaps of different masks and see what I like and what doesn't work for me. I'll report back on my results in two separate blog posts, because honestly I think twenty mini reviews in the one post is way too much work for me (lol) and reading for you.

Here are all the masks I'll be trialling:

Priceline Skincare Gift Bag!

Hi guys! I caved and got the Priceline Skincare Gift Bag deal again. I honestly cannot resist this every time it comes around, even though I don't need any of the skincare inside the bag lol! This time you qualified by spending at least $69 in-store or online on skincare, suncare or tanning across participating brands and in return you could pick up the free skincare bag valued at over $170. This offer was valid between the 25th of October and the 6th of November, so it's already over but I wanted to let you guys know what was inside anyway, so you get a good idea of contents for when Priceline do the next Skincare Gift Bag Gift With Purchase.

The participating brands included a lot of my favourites which really helped, including Dr LeWinns, La Roche-Posay, Skin Republic, Skin Physics, Antipodes and Olay.

First up is my qualifying spend, and anyone would think I have an eye mask fetish? I decided to go bat shit cray cray on the eye masks and get one of everything pretty much! I also used the opportunity to buy a back up of my favourite Antipodes serum, which was discounted. The good thing about these deals is that the participating brands are usually all on sale, so you're saving money and getting your freebie! I got.....

Qualifying Spend
~ Antipodes Hosanna H2O Intensive Skin Plumping Serum
~ A'kin Rose Mist Toner
~ 2 x Skin Republic 24K Gold Aquagel Under Eye Patch
~ Skin Republic Brightening Eye Mask
~ Skin Republic Collagen Hydrogel Under Eye Patch
~ Skin Republic Fast Fix 5 Minute Under Eye Mask
~ Skin Republic Retinol Hydrogel Under Eye Patch

Now onto the actual bag contents. Sometimes I'm a bit disappointed when I look through the contents, but every time I reached in and pulled out a product, I was like 'YES, I can use that'! I'm really impressed with this selection of skincare goodies and am so happy I got the bag. Here's what was inside....

REVIEW/GIVEAWAY: Empassion Skincare Range!

Hello! This post is all about Empassion Natural, an affordable Australian skincare, haircare and aromatherapy brand that uses plant-derived ingredients and no harsh chemicals. I love that all their products are natural, and of course not tested on animals! There are no hidden nasties, so you can be confident that when you use an Empassion product, you're only putting natural ingredients on your body. They make a wide range of beauty products too; there's a range for kids, babies, men and scented ranges such as lavender and pink grapefruit. I was kindly sent the Cream Cleanser*, Face Mask* and Scented Mist* from the lovely Pink Grapefruit range, and Empassion have generously offered to provide an extra set of these goodies to give away to my readers! So keep reading to find out how you can WIN three Pink Grapefruit products to try for yourself!

Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser*

'When you smile, you make the world a happier place... your smile brings joy.'

Firstly, I love that the bottle carries these words of empowerment. How refreshing! This creamy cleanser is targeted towards normal to dry and sensitive skin types, however I have oily/combination skin and I found it to be a lovely, gentle product that was still effective. My skin felt soft and clean afterwards and I didn't experience any dry or tight feeling. It doesn't have any anti-ageing properties and as such it's a cleanser best suited to teenagers and people in their twenties. This would make a perfect starter face wash for those just beginning a skincare routine as it's so gentle; for this reason I also think it would be perfect if you easily react to skincare, as it's designed with sensitive skin in mind and formulated with hydrating ingredients. The ingredients include extracts of wheatgrass, kakadu plum, goji berry, pomegranate and echinacea. Now that I've trialled it, I'll be using this Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser on my son!

Pink Grapefruit  Face Mask*

'You are awesome for who you are.... not for who you can try to copy. Be yourself because you are awesome and amazing.'

Another great message on the bottle; a little snippet of positivity here and there never goes astray, so onya Empassion for making us feel confident and worthy! A quick word of advice - this mask needs to be shaken before use, otherwise it does come out runny (I learnt from experience!). The formula is very thin but smooth and easy to apply. It doesn't actually say on the bottle what it's meant to do, but the Empassion website reveals the Pink Graprefruit Face Mask is designed for normal to oily and acne-prone skin (that's me!) and that the minerals may help re-balance oil flow, strengthen skin and aid in repairing scars. I didn't actually see much difference in my skin after using this mask, but results will vary from person to person obviously. The ingredients include Australian Olive Green Clay, Sunflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Safflower Oil, Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil, Wheatgrass Extract, Goji Berry Extract, Pomegranate Extract and Kakadu Plum Extract, so it has many of the ingredients common to the Cream Cleanser.

Pink Grapefruit Scented Mist*

'When you spray this Spritzer it makes everything smell amazing. When you let your personality, who you are, shine... it makes the world a more amazing place. Let who you are shine because the world will be a better place.'

I'm just going to say it... I am in love with this product! This spray is by far my favourite of the three products I tried and I've been using it everyday. I adore citrus scents because they are fresh, clean and amazing, and this zingy mist, made with pure essential oils, is no exception. I love spritzing it on my upper chest and neck as it refreshes and makes me feel uplifted when the scent reaches my nostrils. It's like using a gorgeously-scented water spray; the fine mist of cool liquid is a mood-booster and perfect to cool me down, and the delicious aroma is an added bonus. This would be ideal to toss in your gymbag to re-energize yourself after a workout! I have also used it on my pillow and as a room spray, as Empassion suggest. I love to use this mist as a base layered with my Chi Chi Pink Grapefruit perfume, as it adds depth and longevity to the fragrance. I highly recommend this delightful Scented Mist!

Pamper Time With Natura Siberica!*

Having fallen in love with Natura Siberica's Oblepikha and Honey Body Scrub (which I raved about in this blog post), then their Oblepikha Shower Gel (blog post here), I was thrilled when they sent me a couple of pampering products; the Natura Siberica Active Organics Revitalizing Bath Salts* and Natura Siberica COSMOS Extra-Firming Facial Mask*.

"Natura Siberica is the first Certified Organic beauty brand based on wild harvested herbs and exclusive natural ingredients sourced from the unspoilt continent of Siberia. Founded in 2007, Natura Siberica beauty products contain natural adaptogens along with other Siberian herbs and plants which offer unique health and beauty benefits, possessing strong antioxidants and protective properties."

Natura Siberica Active Organics Revitalizing Bath Salts

'Revitalizing Siberian Herbal Bath Salt is enriched with essences and oils of Wild Harvested Siberian herbs to work youth and beauty’s magic on your skin. Immerse yourself in its exquisite, sensual aroma and discover an inexhaustible source of healing power – that of primal Siberian nature.'

I would class the Bath Salts as 'relaxing' more-so than 'rejuvenating', because I didn't feel re-awakened or enlivened but did feel incredibly relaxed and rested after using them! Keep in mind, these salts do not change the colour of the bathwater (that remains alarmingly clear) so if you don't like the sight of your naked body, take a book, magazine or your phone to distract your nude self. I had a really good stretch during my bath, stretching out my legs and wiggling my toes whilst downing my fun-size bag of Cheetos (because you gotta have bath snacks, right?). I know it's not just me! If memory serves me well, I didn't have lunch that day, so I also brought along a bag of popcorn for good measure. And probably a beer, because what's a bath without a Pure Blonde? Not worth having, that's what!

In an incredible act of foresight and planning, I miraculously remembered to take the Natura Siberica Bath Salts with me on holiday, because I knew our retreat contained a spa. Best decision ever! The entire bathroom filled with a delightful, fresh fragrance and again, I had the most amazingly relaxing series of baths with the bubble jets on! So I got a nice massage at the same time! I'd highly recommend these Bath Salts if you're stressed or just want to enjoy a fantastic bathing experience.

Natura Siberica COSMOS Extra-Firming Facial Mask

'This very gentle facial mask has been designed to correct wrinkles overnight, when the skin is most inclined to recovery and rejuvenation. The mask deeply nourishes and revitalises the skin. It also provides skin a rejuvenating effect, slowing the ageing process, lifting features, and redefining facial contours.'

This is a bit of a strange face mask, and to be honest, I'm still trying to work it out! It applies like a cream and kind of remains like a cream, except that it does soak in, but not fully, so you do have to wash it off, except it doesn't dry like other masks, so you're not removing a dry, crusty substance, but a mostly-soaked in cream. LOL. Again (and with every Natura Siberica product I've tried), the fragrance is lovely. The fact that it doesn't 'dry out' on the skin means it remains comfortable, and you may well get drunk and forget you have it on go over the recommended wait time of 15 minutes before removal (like I did), not that that will do you any harm! The first time I used this was in the bath, and it was a bit awkward trying to get it off, so I think the shower is definitely easier. Afterwards, my skin felt really soft and smooth and my pores appeared smaller, too. In general, my facial skin looked firmer so I do think this product meets its claims.

Being smack-bang in the middle of a long bathroom renovation means I haven't got as much use out of this as I would have liked, and at this point I cannot wait for the work to be finished so I can get back to my normal beauty routine and give this mask another whirl. Bring on Pamper Sundays!

Revitalizing Bath Salts RRP $14.99 (600g)
COSMOS Extra-Firming Facial Mask RRP $18.99 (75ml)

Natura Siberica is available online here but you can usually save at least $5 per product if you shop at Chemist Warehouse.

Beauty Hauls: Sephora, Mecca Maxima, etc!

As you may know, I recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to Sydney with my family. I was incredibly patient, enduring two full days of non-shopping related activities such as playgrounds, the beach and amusement rides, before I even saw the shops. I basically waited until the third day of the holiday to shop like a Mofo visit Mecca Maxima and Sephora, because I'm just that considerate. LOL. You may see a product theme in the form of MASKS. I went batshit cray-cray for masks for some insane reason (I'm still trying to work it out?) and decided I needed every mask known to man. Check out my beauty hauls below!

For starters, a tiny lip mask haul from Cosmo Cosmetics, a small store selling luxe brands (eg SK-II) at heavily discounted prices, immediately rendering me 100% suspicious. I steered clear of those and got these fun-looking lip masks, because I've never tried a lip mask before and by gosh they look like a good time! Besides, all the packaging is in Asian symbols, adding to the excitement, because I don't know what any of it means! Also, you can put them on your boobies (I asked WTF the cartoon meant and she said you can put them on your nips, and I burst out laughing and went red).

This is perfectly normal

Pure Smile Choosy Fruit Lip Mask
Pure Smile Choosy Gold Pearl Lip Mask

Oh My God, you guys.........

Wall to wall makeup in Sephora *dies*

Next up, Sephora. Oh how I was looking forward to this experience! It didn't disappoint, even though they didn't stock Sleek or Leaders InSolution (online only, apparently). Still, it was two floors full of makeup and skincare goodness, a beauty lovers dream! I was served by a lovely man wearing a full face of makeup (you don't see that in Adelaide!) and he kindly gave me some free samples with my order, although I did have to ask. I kept the purchases to a minimum (lol, see below) since I'm better off getting the Stila, Too Faced, etc from Mecca because their rewards system shits all over Sephora's. Here's my mask-heavy haul...

Items Hauled:
Dr. Jart The Book of Masks
Sephora Green Tea Face Mask
Sephora Lingzhi Face Mask
Sephora Lingzhi Sleeping Mask
Sephora Lingzhi Eye Mask
Sephora Pomegranate Eye Mask
Sephora Lotus Eye Mask
Sephora Ginseng Eye Mask
Sephora Multi-Texture Sponge
Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick in Sexy Game
2 x Clinique Foaming Sonic Facial Soap (free sample)
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Eye (free sample)

This was a spontaneous haul because my son wanted a nice bath in our hotel room, so we needed some bath bombs. Of course, being a huge Lushie, I don't need much convincing to visit a Lush store! The Sales Assistant let him push the buttons on the cash register and stick on the labels, so that was pretty cool, too!

Items Hauled:
Blackberry Bath Bomb
Intergalactic Bath Bomb
FUN Green
Mint Julips Lip Scrub

Swatch Til You Drop, right?

Mecca Maxima time! I was expecting the QVB store to be quite large, but it actually isn't! Anyway, I had my list ready (as I did with Sephora) and had a grand old time swatching, smelling and putting everything in my basket! I tossed up between the Too Faced original Chocolate Bar palette, the Semi-Sweet and the Bon Bons one, but I'm pretty happy I went with the original. Again, the customer service was phenomenal; I had multiple SA's helping me, discussing beauty and explaining the difference between the palettes and how to use each of the free samples.
