The Muppets

Starring: Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Jack Black, Kermit, Miss Piggy
Genre: Family/Comedy

For anyone who grew up watching The Muppet Show on TV, this is an awesome film. Featuring old favourites Kermit The Frog and Miss Piggy, as well as Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Rowlf The Dog, Bunsen, Beaker, Scooter, Animal, Swedish Chef and even old wise-cracking dudes Statler and Waldorf, The Muppets is entertaining, funny and just as enjoyable for adults as it is kids. My four year old managed to sit still through nearly the whole movie and was laughing out loud, despite never having seen the original show on which this film is based.

Jason Segel, Amy Adams and even baddie Chris Cooper are great in the many musical numbers peppered throughout, and Jack Black is funny as usual. Jason Segel (TV's How I Met Your Mother, as well as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up and Bad Teacher) has done a bang-up job writing this screenplay, for the Muppet characters ring true to how I remember them, all those years ago. Apparently, Segel approached Disney in 2007 to write a Muppets movie, because as an avid fan, he was concerned the younger generation were missing out on one of his childhood favourites.

If you have young kids, or even loved The Muppet Show when you were young, I highly recommend catching The Muppets while it's still in cinemas!

Wordless Wednesday: Holiday Edition - Got the NYE Blues!

Someone had just been partying hard at a big New Years Eve bash aboard the Zaandam, and all he wanted was a balloon, and to go back to our cabin. Clearly, Pina Coladas do not work on this boy. JUST KIDDING. :oD

Holiday Edition: Singapore Haul Part 1!

Well Singapore is certainly known for its shopping, and now I know why! Even though we were busy every day, visiting the Zoo, Sentosa Island, Universal Studios and the Singapore Flyer, there was no way I was going to neglect my passion for retail therapy.

I nearly dropped dead when I spied a Sephora, and I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy more stuff. I always thought we'd get back there, where upon (now familiar with the store layout and brands) I would go freaking crazy, but it never happened.

Most of the following Haul took place at ION Orchard and Suntec City Mall. Enjoy!

THE BODY SHOP
Papaya Body Scrub
Lychee Blossom Body Mist
Earth Lovers Lemon & Thyme Shower Gel
Earth Lovers Pear & Lemongrass Shower Gel
White Musk Blush Eau De Toilette
Cranberry Joy Lip Balm
Candied Ginger Lip Balm

Who doesn't love a sale? The scrub was $11 off, fragrance was $7 off, EDT was $10 off, lip balms were both 40% off when you bought 2 and there was a 2 for 1 offer on the shower gels if you had a Citibank card!

Ger ready for the gratuitous close-up .........

BLACK THONGS
Joker thongs from DC Comics Superstore
Airwalk thongs from Payless Shoes

Airwalk were 60% off (totalling approx $5.25) and Jokers were $17 marked down from $60. Yes, $60 for a pair of thongs. Even though I feel guilty about walking on Heath Ledger's face every day, I console myself with the fact that these mofo's are comfy as! RIP Heath.

THE FACE SHOP
Unfortunately, there's no shade names, so left to right, we have
RD301
Face It GL111
PP402

From memory the gold one, being a 'Face It' was $7.90 and the others were $2.90 each.

SEPHORA
MAC Amplified Lipstick in Craving
Soap & Glory Scrub Your Nose In It
Clinique Chubby Stick in Whole Lotta Honey

MAC was $28, scrub was $17, chubby stick was $26 (later found them at Singapore Airport for $20!). Annoyed that I chickened out of getting some shade of red for my first MAC lippie. I tried on about 7 reds, but they all seemed to look wrong. I should have done way more research on MAC lipsticks before going away, so I knew exactly what to look for. Oh well. I still had a blast in that Sephora store :)

What's your favourite MAC lipstick?

Holiday Edition: Cruisy Makeup

As many of you know, my family and I recently went on a three week holiday over Christmas. We spent two weeks aboard the Cruise ship, Zaandam, visiting the Great Barrier Reef, Darwin, Bali, Komodo Island and Semarang, then disembarked to spend a week in Singapore! It was relaxing, interesting, exciting, fun and at times, a real eye-opener.

Since this is partly a beauty blog, I thought I'd start 2012 by featuring the basic makeup products I used daily during the Cruise. (Over the coming weeks, I'll be writing more Holiday Edition posts, so keep an eye out for my Singapore Hauls as well as some posts on the places we visited). There's much to do and see at sea, so I didn't want to spend ages each morning getting ready. I found that the following items worked well, stayed on and looked decent.

Revlon Colorstay 24 Hour MakeUp in Ivory
I can't rave enough about this foundation. I wanted a base that would stay on all day as I didn't want to be touching up constantly, and I got it. This little beauty stayed on through thick and thin. I got rained on, endured extreme heat and intense humidity. Bali, Semarang and Singapore have horrible heat and humidity, and Darwin was stinking hot. You basically drip sweat constantly when you're out in these places. At one point, hubby even said to me "I can't believe your makeup is still on!" and he never notices ANYTHING about my makeup! Brilliant product.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Fair Clair
I love this easy to use, creamy concealer. It's just the right consistency and does the job well. Did not need to reapply throughout the day.

Face of Australia Translucent Loose Powder
I've recently switched from being a compact to a loose (powder!) girl and I'm so glad. I've finally mastered the right amount of product to load the brush with (not much!) and the degree to which I should tap and remove the excess before applying, and now this is a breeze. The humidity meant I did get shiny throughout the day, but a quick application of the tiniest bit of FOA loose powder and the shinies were banished. YAY!

Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour Eye Shadow in Coffee Bean
Again I wanted something that would stay on all day. I love wearing neutrals, and these graduating browns along with some black liner provided a smokey look that lasted.

Benefit Thrrrob Blush
Love this gorgeous shade of pink. It's easily buildable and it's extremely difficult to apply too much, because it's such a subtle, gentle, light pink. Loving this to death!

Australis Lip Pencil in Miss-Behave
This is a great rosy/dusky natural-looking pink shade that was very versatile. Easy to apply and looks great.

Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 07
My favourite of all the Kate lippies, this neutral goes on smoothly, wears brilliantly and is very flattering. I've already bought my replacement even though I'm only halfway through my current one!
