Oar Lakeside

Oar Lakeside
100 Military Road
West Lakes Shore
SA 5020

Hi guys! A couple of weeks ago we went on a Sunday drive and ended up at Oar Lakeside for lunch. This restaurant is located on the lake at the front of the Rowing SA complex at West Lakes Shore, in a beautiful area. There's a playground nearby and it's also within walking distance of the beach. The restaurant is decorated with oars and is filled with leafy green plants. It really is a lovely, open, airy setting and a pleasure to dine in.

Honey Lime Smoothie with honeydew, lime, kiwi, pineapple and sorbet
Look at that bacon though

We have an extremely fussy 12 year old, but luckily there were a couple of things on the Small Plates menu that took his fancy; the Hickory Smoked Middle Rasher Bacon and the French Fries with Bacon Salt and Confit Tomato Relish (both photographed above). I tried some of the bacon and fries and they were damn good! Bacon actually features heavily on the menu, as they also offer American thin and crispy bacon and thick cut maple cured eye bacon.

I need to try this one for myself

My husband ordered the Crispy White Corn Tostada topped with refried beans, pulled chipotle chicken, shaved cabbage and lettuce, avocado, radish, cheese, jalapeno lime dressing, salsa and sour cream (photo above). I didn't try this but he loved it!

Do you eat the pickle? The husband always gets my pickle.

I ordered the Double Beef Burger with American Cheese, crispy bacon and Brooklyn pickles in a brioche bun with bacon salt French Fries (pictured above). The fries were absolutely amazing! Unfortunately the beef was too undercooked for me, but I ate as much of it as I could from around the edges, and my husband finished it.

I shall dub this 'A Bowl Of Yum'

The desserts were huge and super impressive, with beautiful plating. Pictured above is my husband's dessert: Coyo Organic Coconut Yoghurt Parfait with coconut chia, mango puree, orange jelly, kiwi, passion fruit, coconut crisp and meringue. These flavours were amazing!

French Toast lovers rejoice!

My dessert was so delicious (and huge!). I had the Thick Cut Brioche French Toast with Cinnamon Stewed Apples, Salted Pecan Crumble, Crispy American Bacon, Vanilla Mascarpone and Spice Bourbon Maple Syrup (photo above). I tried to execute a pour shot and failed miserably, but the important thing was this dessert was so good! The toasty bits added a delicious crunchy texture, the bacon was tasty af and the whole dish came together beautifully. I was upset I was too full to finish it, as it was a shame to leave any of this goodness on the plate.

We loved dining at Oar and will definitely be returning to try more dishes!

2020 Golden Globes Fashion: Hits and Misses!

Hi guys! How long has it been since I've done a celebrity fashion post? So long! This is a light-hearted look at celebrity styling at the recent Globes, not to be taken too seriously. I know I'm not a fashion critic, I'm a celebrity-loving gal sitting on her couch with a bag of popcorn and lot of opinions. With all the devastating bushfires currently burning across Australia, it can get overwhelming and depressing, so this is a fun one, an escape for a couple of minutes. What was your favourite lewk? Let me know in the comments!

Hits

Jennifer Lopez

I love this dress so much! It's bold, it's weird, it's basically J.Lo wrapped up as a late Christmas present, plus it features gold, what's not to love?

Sienna Miller

I don't even care that this is a bit casual for the GG's, it's sexy, fun and the fabric colours are cheerful and beautiful. If only a piece of string would hold my bewbs up!

Helen Mirren

This dress is perfect for her, is all class and, as an added bonus, looks comfy as!

Dakota Fanning

This is such a dreamy look and perfectly suits her, right down to the colour of this lovely dress. I can even look past the puffy sleeves which, unfortunately, were a theme of the night.

Scarlett Johansson

Now this is a dress! Cut and colour on point, I love it!

Renee Zellweger

Although plain, this is classic and elegant and the streamlined look is perfect for her.

Nicole Kidman

All the yes with this red number! What an absolutely gorgeous frock.

Ana de Armas

I had to Google who she was (she was in the movie KNIVES OUT, which is brilliant by the way) but this sparkly dress is stunning! It's such a 'wow' look and is my fave dress from the night!

Misses

Gwyneth Paltrow

I don't like a single thing about this except for her body, which is admittedly, probably the point of the dress (or lack thereof) in the first place. The colour is horrific and it seems like a desperate scream for attention. Just no.

Michelle Williams

I actually really like this dress except for the weird blue thing on her shoulder which ruins the whole thing. It's just strange and wrong and shouldn't be there? Otherwise, on point.

Charlize Theron

This look is elegant AF and she obviously looks stunning but the colour of this is giving me Kermit vibes and not in a good way. The black bustier bit is hot though!

Cate Blanchett

I hate the puffy sleeves on this thing, and also what is that weird straight bit going up the middle of her chest? I am confused.

Jodie Comer

Oh boy, where to start with this look. The sleeves, again, are crazy (I'm really not understanding the puffy sleeve trend?) and the cut of this dress is ugly and unflattering.

I'm Too Confused To Know If It's Good Or Bad

Lucy Boynton

I mean it's not good is it. But is it 50 Shades of Wrong? I don't know. It's just so confronting on the old eyeballs. I can't even.

Anna Paquin

I actually like this busy dress but it seems all wrong for the Golden Globes. So I don't know! Brain cannot compute.

Taylor Swift

I have literally looked at her dress for ten minutes and I'm still up in the air? I do love her makeup though, such a great change from her usual red lip!

Zoe Kravitz

I both like this and don't? The pattern clash is kind of assaulting my eyes and yet she looks fabulous nonetheless haha.

Margot Robbie

Again, I like her outfit, but it seems a bit casual for the Globes, although the pretty bodice is snazzy. It's snazual. Haha.

Boxing Day Sales Haul!

Hi guys! Well it's the New Year, but I'm still psyched about the Boxing Day sales! I said I wasn't going to buy anything, but then I remembered I had two gifts cards to redeem (and what a perfect time, whilst everything is discounted!) plus we went to our local Westfield and I couldn't resist picking up a few things. Did you get any great bargains? Let me know in the comments below!

Here's what I got....

JB Hi-Fi
I'd won a $50 gift card so I decided to get some blu-rays. Some movies and TV series boxsets were buy one get one free (woo hoo!) and other blu-rays/DVDs were 30% off. I bought the Final Destination 5 Film Collection blu-ray set and chose to get the Scream Complete Collection blu-ray set free! Then I got Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and RocketMan for 30% off. Winning!

Lush
I haven't bought any Lush in years (for reasons best not discussed lol), but I gave in and bought a bunch of goodies, all half price For The Win! I specifically got things I hadn't tried before; Drummers Drumming Shower Jelly, Happy Shower Gel, Winter Berry soap, Satsuma Soap and a cheeky Galaxy Lip Scrub I added last minute at the checkout.

Myer
I did some research with this one, by looking on the Myer website the day before going in-store. I'd already picked out a pair of mustard wedges (a welcome and refreshing change from my usual black) but unfortunately they were hella uncomfortable to walk in! I ended up picking up an interesting pair of Piper Barbados wedges that I can wear with black outfits, and hopefully a few other outfits.

Kikki K
How good is Kikki K?! I got 40% off a 2020 Diary in their members Boxing Day sale. So happy with that! Their diaries never let me down.

KMart
I also got some frypans, a corkboard to make a moodboard with and a cute as heck little fake pot plant from KMart but I'm pretty sure they were full-priced so I shouldn't really include it in this Boxing Day Sales haul lol. KMart is cheap at the best of times though and I had to at least show you the cat fake pot plant. How freakin' cute is it!?

2020 Masking Challenge!

Hi guys! Happy New Year! I have decided to start off 2020 with an epic Masking Challenge. I've pulled out twenty masks and I'm attempting to use them all this month. Some are single use and some are in pots. The fact that I could easily locate twenty masks in my collection is somewhat disturbing (lol) and the main motivation for this challenge. I have so many beauty products that it's quite overwhelming and I really want to start using them up. I'm also planning on doing a Project Pan this year, starting next month. That's how serious I am!

I've got my fingers crossed that using a different mask nearly every day won't have any adverse effects on my skin. I've seen this done before, but have never attempted it myself, so it's really anyone's guess what will happen haha. In any case, this will be a great opportunity to try out heaps of different masks and see what I like and what doesn't work for me. I'll report back on my results in two separate blog posts, because honestly I think twenty mini reviews in the one post is way too much work for me (lol) and reading for you.
