Buried

Starring: Ryan Reynolds
Genre: Thriller

Paul Conroy, a US Truck Driver carrying out contract work in Iraq, is kidnapped and taken hostage by terrorists, sealed in a wooden box and buried underground. How will he escape before running out of oxygen?

Buried is Disturbing. Terrifying. Stressful. Moving. Frantic. Intense. Depressing. And Brilliant. I watched it because a) I'm a Ryan Reynolds fan and b) I'm very claustrophic and wanted to challenge myself. I laugh at that now! This movie is so much more than a claustrophobics worst nightmare. Immediately after watching this, I regretted it. I tried to force myself to forget it. But this truly is unforgettable. Ryan Reynolds is the only actor in this movie, and it's 90 minutes of him trapped in a box. He gives an impressive performance, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats with anticipation.

This is an ambitious concept which could easily have gone very wrong, but Director Rodrigo Cortés' impressive use of lighting and angled shots keeps it tight and exciting. What an achievement. I can't imagine DVD sales would be particularly high; this isn't the type of movie you want on high rotation. It's taken me two weeks to bring myself to review Buried, because it was such an intense experience for me. I think I'm still trying to get over it. You have been warned!

  1. I bought it! But have yet to watch it. One day... so thanks for the positive critique (and the warning), it helps.
Hey is this a new background or am I spectacularly unobservant? Whichever, I love it!
