Mani: Essence I Love Trends The Pastels Matte Nails!

I had a bit of a nail crisis recently, when three nails decided to break within the space of a few days. And by 'break' I mean really short, as in down to the quick. I bit the bullet and filed the whole lot short to match and went for a specifically non-red colour. You can basically see the top of my fingers at this point. Hey, they'll grow back, what can you do, right?

I've been loving budget brand Essence lately, however this is my first product fail, mainly in the sense that I don't think matte nails are for me. I love this pretty pastel peach colour and I think the shade name 'I'm So Fluffy' is pretty darn cute, but I'm not in love with this formula. The first coat was terribly uneven, so a second coat was definitely in order. The polish dried quite quickly as well, so this was not exactly a relaxing manicure! The matte finish is just horrible, flat and ugly, in my opinion. I literally couldn't take it and glossed it up with the addition of my OPI Top Coat. This saved it for me and now I like how it looks. But I will never buy matte nail polish again, because, well, I hate it.

Products Used:
Essence I Love Trends The Pastels matte nail polish in I'm So Fluffy
OPI Top Coat

Matte finish, before the addition of top coat

With OPI top coat, in natural sunlight

Disclaimer: Essence was bought by me and the OPI I won. All thoughts are my honest opinion, as always.

What length do you prefer your nails? Have you tried wearing matte nail polish?

  1. I think I prefer glossy polish to matte as well... unless it's really deep and dark colour. Pastel polishes are ever so pretty but always tend to look awkward on my hands

    1. Yes I think matte black nails look great on other people but I don't think I could pull it off. Maybe matte suits darker colours better.

    1. Yeah I remember you saying it was chalky so I wanted to see for myself. It indeed sucks cupcakes as you say (lol). I must have a look at their gel range then. Thanks Christina! :)

  3. My nails are always shorter than I'd like! I'm currently trying to strengthening them in the hope that I will be able to have them at least slightly longer! Glossy nail polish is a lot more flattering on my nails than matte.

    1. Good luck with the strengthening process! I'm beginning to think matte is just not a very flattering look in general. I think you might have to have perfect nails to make it look good.

  8. This is such a pretty shade, fairly neutral but still bright! I find its kind of a theme, if one nail breaks, another one has to. The struggle is real.

    1. Yes indeed! At least it means the breakages are all over with at once. Thanks for visiting :)

  11. LOVE this colour Di, and you've turned it into such a pretty finish. I loathe matte nail polishes too - they might work on gals with supremely manicured and long nails, but on my stubbies, it looks like I've made a big boo boo ha ha ♥

    1. Haha, yes it's so hard to get matte to look nice. Gloss fixes everything! x
