Haul: 40% Off Maybelline at Priceline + Rant

Who can resist 40% off Maybelline? Not I!

Hi guys! A while back Priceline had another sale (seriously, when is there not a sale happening at that place?), namely 40% off the entire Maybelline range. There are a few Maybelline products that are staples in my makeup routine, so I went in to stock up. I got everything in the photo above, plus a third Masterliner and a Fit Me Concealer, both of which I began using immediately and didn't include in the photograph. I also thought it was the perfect time to try out a few products I hadn't used before!

I've read some glowing reviews of the Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation, so I'm very interested to see how it performs on my skin. This is possibly a case of bad timing though, because for the last few days I've been trialling a MAC Pro Longwear foundation sample and I'm madly in love with it. So the Fluid Touch now has big shoes to fill!

Shine-Free Foundation Stick reminds me of Benefit Fake Up Concealer!

I got the Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara out of curiousity, and I don't even know why (besides it being cheap) I bought the Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation Stick because I never use the stick ones! I'll be interested to see if it mattifies my oily/combination skin and cross my fingers it's not too drying.

Oh My! So pretty!

I've just tried on the Vivid Rose ColorSensational lipstick and I'm wondering if I even swatched this in-store? It is super bright, so they are not kidding on the 'Vivid' front! I will reserve judgement until I've had a chance to rock this shade with a full face of makeup. I just had to get the Master Hi-Light Hi-Lighting Blush in Pink Rose because it looked so pretty and I don't really have anything like this in my collection. Now I just have to work out how best to use it!

Rant Alert! Priceline's over-zealous packaging is again shitting me to tears. I know they have their reasons, and some of those are for the benefit of the customer, but still, there has to be a better way. They tightly seal products with sticky tape that is wound around so many times that it's impossible to find the end to remove it. Every time I buy from Priceline, I spend a good ten minutes attempting to remove all the tape to get the products open. You can get nice sticky tape that doesn't leave hideous sticky marks on products, but they don't use this kind. They use the kind that actually rips some of the finish off the product. This is the second time I've bought a Maybelline lipstick only to have the sticky tape pull off the silver finish from the bottom of the tube. Priceline, your excessive use of sticky tape to seal products is annoying, time-consuming, nail-ruining (yes, I broke a nail trying to get some of it off) and just plain wrong when it wrecks the aesthetic of the brand new product I just paid money for at your store. See below for the photos to prove it. Rant over.

I've had it with this!
*Waves goodbye to the pretty silver finish*  :(

Am I the only one annoyed by Priceline's excessive use of sticky tape on their products? Let me know your feelings in the comments below!

  1. That's a shame that it ruins it! I have to say I'd prefer that though than going somewhere and everything being mangled and open.

    1. Yeah it sucks when they are open and used, but I'd always check it first before buying. Just wish they sealed it less enthusiastically and with the type of sticky tape that doesn't rip the finish off the product!

  2. True! Its so annoying isnt it! There has to be a better way! Love your choices, those Master Hilights are the business! If Vivid Rose is too vivid, 5th Ave Fuchsia and Fuchsia Fever are nice, slightly less hit pink, but still bright pink options! :-)

    1. I am loving the Master Hi-Lights blush, Christina! So happy I got it. Thanks for the lippie recommendations! :)

  3. I'm such a sucker for Priceline sales! I also quite enjoy the brow mascara.

  4. I totally agree with your rant. I've broken numerous nails trying to get sticky tape off products. I now even keep a bottle of eucalyptus oil to remove the leftover sticky residue after I finally get the sticky tape off!

    1. Yes, I keep meaning to get myself some eucalyptus oil for that very purpose! Priceline should include a free one with every purchase, it's only fair. LOL

  5. I really want to try the Master High-Light Blush. Thankfully I don't have the sticky tape problem at my Priceline, it's a country store, so that's probably why. I would rant about it, too!

    1. Well that's a cool perk of living in the country! (The fresh air would be kind of nice, too). The hi-light blush is so nice, Michelle, I'm so glad I got it!

  6. Oh I totally feel you on Priceline's excessive sealing! I have busted nails and had to chop in with nail scissors to get lipsticks open sometimes, which is not time I need to spend in the morning when I'm getting ready. I like a tamper-proof seal (NYX in Target have nothing, consequently all their lippies get jacked up rendering them unpurchaseable) but there has to be a limit!! How are you supposed to take a nice product pic with plastic barcode wrap and gunge all over it?? #beautybloggerproblems

    1. Yes indeed! I had to get the scissors out this time, too, as it just was not coming off otherwise! Ridiculous! I would love it if they could find a happy medium, as we don't want the Nyx in Target situation happening, either!

  7. great haul!! I'm curious about the stick foundation too.. I've only used shiseido stick foundations to date and I love the crap out of them lol. Let us know how you go :D

    1. Will do! I swatched it on my hand and it was surprisingly moisturising!

  8. Isn't it frustrating! Sticky tape all over always takes away all the excitement of getting the new products for me...
But it looks like a lovely selection of products you picked up - can't wait o hear your thoughts on the blush.

  9. urghhh I hate the stick tape! They do it over here too in cheaper shops, bleugh!

You should have gotten the Maybelline Lash Sensational if it was on sale too!

    1. That's true! Every cloud has a silver lining I guess (even if the silver lining is missing from the lipstick tube!) LOL

  12. Impressive haul! haha I do love the way you aren't sure why you bought the stick foundation... :) Sounds like something I would do!
Have you been to the 50% Chemist Warehouse sale yet??
I get it with the tape! Though, I have a lipstick in the same packaging just a different shade, and the silver part has all bubbled and is ripping off as well :( just sucks that yours is the shops fault!

    1. Oh wow, stupid silver part! No I didn't know about the 50% off at Chemist Warehouse. I'd better skip that one as I've been buying way too much stuff lately!

  13. Great stash of goodies - you did so well Di! The sticky tape thing is a huge bugbear of mine - I have enough trouble with the plastic seals on lip liners and eye liners, you know the ones with the perforations that are supposed to be easy to remove...not! Sigh, it's the world we live in unfortunately, but you'd think that with so many stores having this problem, someone would make a tape that didn't damage the packaging - boo!

    1. Yes, exactly! I've raised the issue with Priceline before but you just get the stock standard copy/paste customer complaint answer from them. I really need to get some eucalyptus oil to remove all the sticky marks left behind.
