What I've Been Watching On Netflix!

Hi guys! I've been watching a fair bit of Netflix lately, partly due to being sick (and actually resting this time!) so I thought I'd share the shows with you. I'm always keen for recommendations and would love to hear your thoughts on these, so please comment below and let me know.

First of all, there's a few ongoing series, where a new episode comes out every week or so, that I'm pretty invested in...

I love this show despite the ridiculous storylines. It's dark and mysterious, there's teenage angst and romance and of course, Cole Sprouse. It's a bit weird/sad watching it now that Luke Perry (who played Archie's Father, Fred Andrews) is dead, but I'm seasons deep and not stopping now. I've recommended Riverdale before here.

This is the high glam, ridiculous guilty pleasure viewing that I live for. Outfits to die for, shocks aplenty and hilarious oneliners, mainly from my queen Fallon Carrington. Bring it! I've previously blogged about Dynasty here.

I'm biased because I'm already a Trekkie, but Star Trek Discovery is seriously impressive. From the acting, to the story arc, direction, makeup and sets, everything about this show is a winner. It's pretty hardcore though, so don't expect lightweight sci-fi fluff!

And I've also watched....

Titans was another gritty, super dark shocking series that definitely pulled me in. It took me most of the series to work out two of the main characters were played by Aussies, Dick Grayson (portrayed by Brenton Thwaites) and Rachel Roth (played by Teagan Croft). And a warning that this was quite gory in parts so make sure your kids don't walk in when you're watching this!

OK so I only watched this because it starred Gossip Girl hottie, Penn Badgley, and oh boy was I in for a shock! First of all, dude can act. Penn plays a creepy af stalker and will seriously have you feeling all the emotions in this. I'm happy to say that filming for the second season is currently underway and Netflix is committed to screening it.

This is an absolutely beautiful rollercoaster ride that will have you laughing one minute and bawling the next. Ricky Gervais is an absolute genius, and if you haven't already read it, I dedicated an entire blog post to this touching series here.

This is a movie, not a series, and a Netflix original I believe? I'd heard such great things, and I must say this cute teen rom-com was the perfect distraction when I was sick. No thinking required, with the added bonus that now I know who the hell Noah Centineo is. I am young and hip again! In great news, filming for the sequel is currently underway!

Well this was a real eye-opener! I sat in disbelief for most of this, but still absolutely fascinated with how everything went down. Highly recommended!

While this does have graphic sex scenes and nudity, it's also a super sweet look at love and romance. All the performances are amazing, especially Asa Butterfield as Otis, Emma Mackey as Maeve and Gillian Anderson as Otis's Mum Jean, a Sex Therapist. I think maybe my favourite performance though, is Ncuti Gatwa as Otis' best friend Eric. His character has quite the story arc, and Ncuti really shines in this role.

This was a fascinating look into the Madeleine McCann case, and I did learn a lot, even though they seemed to go over the same information again and again. Another drawback was the frequent subtitles, which sucked especially when they put white text over a white background and expect us to be able to read it. Otherwise, a satisfactory look into the sad disappearance of Maddie.

I just finished this series last night and I loved it! Natasha Lyonne (remember her?) plays super tough Nadia, who keeps dying and waking up in the bathroom at her 36th Birthday party. Sound intriguing? It is, and then some. It's funny, mysterious and so addictive. Definitely give this one a go, guys!

What's On My Watch List?
Oh boy. What's not on my list at this point? First and foremost, I want to binge Season 3 of Santa Clarita Diet, as I'm a huge Drew Barrymore fan and I loved the first two seasons. I also want to scare the pants off myself with Conversations With a Killer: the Ted Bundy Tapes, and I've been meaning to start Dear John, because I've heard such great things (and Eric Bana, hello). There's more but when I have too much on my plate, I tend to get easily overwhelmed and have panic attacks in the supermarket, and trust me, they aren't fun!

However, there are so many movies I want to see on Netflix that I've decided to set myself a May Movie Challenge, which I'm so excited for! Look out for a blog post at the start of May detailing what that will entail!

    1. Yes I remember you saying that! Those interest me as well but I'm not sure what's good in that genre other than Dear John maybe?

  3. Love my Netflix! I have basically binged on this all school holidays. Love After Life and I am still watching it. Also rewatching Stranger Things because the new series is coming soon and I can’t wait!

    1. Ages ago I watched the first episode of Stranger Things but couldn't get into it - but I do want to try again. All these people can't be wrong lol!

  4. Thanks for these recommendations, I'm keeping a list of all the shows I want to watch so these reviews help a lot. I've started After Life and recently finished Derry Girls which was a hoot! Visiting from #lifethisweek

    1. Thanks for alerting me to Derry Girls - on the list it goes! Thanks for reading Deb x

  5. Oh yes, I'm with you! Just finished season 3 of Santa Clarita and it was ace! I also loved To All The Boys I've Loved Before - it's so lovely! I've also been sick this month and making the most of Netflix - loved You - but so spooky, I really feel I need to debrief with someone about it - am loving Sex Education and also really enjoyed Derry Girls. Following your recommendation we watched After Life and loved it! And how good was Fyre?! I was incredulous! We've just watched a Belgian black comedy called The Clan (or The Outlaws) on SBS. It was brilliant!

    1. OMG we like a lot of the same shows! Yes, the ending of You was shocking. I can't wait to start S3 of Santa Clarita Diet, love that show. I'm so glad you loved After Life after my recommendation, that's amazing to hear!

  6. I have watched and loved so many of these! I think Fyre will be how I finish out my long weekend.

  7. I've watched a few of these. You hit a bit too close to home which is why even though Dirty John is on my list, I'm kinda putting it off. Really enjoyed Russian Doll and To all the boys I loved before was one of those really light-hearted watches that didn't require any thinking. I've been recommended Sex Education but haven't seen it yet. Started watching After Life but need to finish it

    1. It looks like we enjoy a lot of the same shows! Thanks so much for reading Sanch!

  8. It's my age but I have watched The Crown and a million re-runs of Downton Abbey. I do highly recommend Brene Brown's recent foray onto Netflix.

Thanks for linking up for #lifethisweek. Next week's optional prompt: is "1/3 of 2019 is over" and for me, that IS scary. Hope to see you there. Denyse

    1. I've been meaning to get into Downton Abbey for ages but never get around to it! Thanks for the link up Denyse :)

  9. I've just done one of these as well and saw your Russian doll avatar in the link up and was worried I'd accidentally linked my last one (as I'd talked about Russian Doll in that). Thanks so much for these extra pointers.

  10. I'm always looking for suggestions of new things to watch on Netflix so thank you! Also - hope you're feeling better now! #TeamLovinLife

  11. Thanks for the tips. #lovinlifelinky
